Ski touring in Obergurgl

Around Obergurgl you can find various ski touring adventures.

The region around Obergurgl enjoys snowsure conditions throughout the winter and is therefore ideal for wintersports enthusiasts in search of off-piste adventures. Skiers new to the sport and those who don’t want to take their ski touring gear with them on holiday will find everything they need available to hire at Scheiber Sport.

Easy and flexible

Obergurgl’s location at the end of the Ötztal Valley, surrounded by majestic mountains with metres of snow, makes it a true paradise for ski touring. This popular alpine sport involves walking up the mountain on skis fitted with skins which grip the snow, before removing the skins at the top and descending back down into the valley through untouched powder. The Obergurgl region is especially popular with ski touring enthusiasts in springtime, when the weather is warm yet there is still plenty of snow to be found. There are also guided ski tour introduction courses going on throughout the winter – and all the ski and safety equipment you need can be hired from Scheiber Sport.

Walking in a winter wonderland

Warm sunshine, soft snow and glistening peaks are enough to tempt skiers of all abilities and fitness levels away from the marked slopes and back to nature. Simply visit one of the Scheiber Sport shops and talk to a member of staff. We will be happy to provide you with all the gear you need to stay safe and have fun in the mountains. Beginners who want to try ski touring without the risk of venturing into open terrain can practise climbing up and skiing down the slopes in the resort. Ski touring equipment includes:

  • touring skis (incl. skins)
  • poles
  • ski touring boots
  • avalanche protection equipment (beacon, probe, shovel)

For just a small fee you can hire all this equipment and start exploring the many peaks in the Ötztal Valley over 3,000 metres in altitude.

Tip! If you are planning an off-piste ski tour outside the marked boundaries of the resort, we recommend that you hire a guide.
